Part of Oregon's B & B Complex fire closure lifted
AREA OF B & B COMPLEX FIRES OPENED TO PUBLIC
Bulletin staff report
November 2003
National Forest officials announced Friday that people can use trails and trailheads in the Deschutes and' Willamette national forests that were previously closed because of the B and B Complex fires.
Beginning on Wednesday, officials will lift all fire closures on the Willamette National Forest as well as closures on the
Deschutes National Forest in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness and in the area south of Highway 20.
Wind and snow storms blew over many of the trees that posed a public hazard, according to Sisters district ranger Bill Anthony.
Officials have also removed many hazardous trees near roads and sno-parks, he said.
However, dangers still exist and people should be aware of them when they go into the forest, he said.
The portion of the Mount Jefferson Wilderness in the Deschutes National Forest will be re-opened, but roads in the forest leading to trailheads will remain closed, according to Paul Engstrom, Sisters Ranger District recreation planner.
Visitors can access the wilderness from trailheads in the Willamette National Forest and at Santiam Pass, he said.
